When the water vapor from the moist compressed air is exchanged into the desiccant, it gradually becomes saturated with adsorbed water. As the air is passed through the filter, a desiccant breather removes humidity. The goal is to dry the air before it enters the reservoir. Particles in the air are removed by mechanical filters when they’re built.

The top of the tank reservoir should have air filters fitted to clean any air that enters the reservoir as the fluid level drops from normal system cycling.
