PLEATED DUST COLLECTOR AIR FILTERS – Episode 1.

The pleated dust collector air filters are designed to remove dust and other contaminants from the air that passes through them. They are typically made from a variety of materials, such as paper, synthetic fibers, or metal mesh, and are typically used in industrial or commercial settings, such as HVAC systems or dust collection systems.

However, when it comes to process exhaust or pneumatic conveying installations, cleaning of gases free of dust can require rather large solid concentrations.

The typical initial step is to use a cyclone to effectively remove suspended solids and collect them at their maximum concentrations in an easily recyclable state.

There are, however, many applications where low concentrations must be completely removed.

These are the different kinds of dust collectors that can be employed:

*Bag houses The units are available in a wide range of types and sizes, with a capture range from 100 microns to about 0.05 microns.

*Cyclones

They are suitable as primary collectors for the dust of moderate to coarse particle size around 10 microns, as pre-cleaners for more efficient final collectors, and work on aerodynamic principles with no moving parts.

*Multi Cyclones

Large exhaust gas volumes containing dust in medium concentrations of about 8 to 10 microns can be collected with groups of smaller diameter cyclones.

*Wet collectors/Scrubbers Working on aerodynamic principles with a water spray or water wash. These include cyclone and jet type scrubbers about 1 to 12 microns and venturi type scrubbers about 0.1 microns with high-efficiency. — Filters with viscous impingement,

— Electrostatic precipitators that can capture microscopic particles down to 0,1 mic.,

— Dust collectors for oil bath dust, about 1 micron.,

— The oil mist collector is designed to trap and remove oil mist.,

— Fume extractors that fit in hoods, fishtails, or enclosures can also be used to treat dust.,

— The fume collectors used were activated charcoal or similar adsorbent filters.

*The operation of centrifugal skimmers and other similar dry-working collectors depends on aerodynamic principles.

A pleated dust collector air filter is usually installed in the air intake of a dust collection system or HVAC system. The dust and particles are captured in the pleats as the air flows through the filter. They are held in place until the filter needs to be cleaned or replaced.

The folds in the filters are related to how the material is folded and are critical for the correct catching/pouring of the dust cake. Furthermore, in order to capture more dust and particles, the surface area of the filter is increased by folding the material into pleats, as filter diameters allow. The pleated design increases the efficiency and prolongs the lifespan of the filter.
